The higher-level Suntour forks and shocks are very good. Don’t judge them by the bottom budget forks. I’d actually put them up there with Fox and RS on quality. Move along, nothing to see here.

The mid level forks from Suntour are not bad at all. But at the same time: the very cheap forks are soooo cheap that they can’t be better… The cheap and mid-range suntours use grease on the stanchions instead of oil in the lowers – they are vastly improved by converting to oil.

When it comes to mountain bike shocks, the preload refers to the amount of sag the shocks allow when the bike is at rest with only the rider’s weight bearing down on it. If it’s too low, your shocks won’t be supportive when you need them to be.

Registered. XCR is really similar to the XCM but is a lighter build, which, given the coil, functionally makes them very close. The XCT is almost a hybrid fork. The build is much less dialed, and it isn’t really meant for riding where the front wheel spends much time off the ground.
