Is the Suntour XCM tapered?
The XCM’s have a non-tapered 1.1/8 steerer tube that is 255mm long, so I’m assuming (rightly or wrongly) that I have to replace with something with the same spec.

The mid level forks from Suntour are not bad at all. But at the same time: the very cheap forks are soooo cheap that they can’t be better… The cheap and mid-range suntours use grease on the stanchions instead of oil in the lowers – they are vastly improved by converting to oil.

We were thoroughly impressed with the performance of the SR Suntour Auron, TriAir package. Even though the fork makes a sloshy-kind of sound under rebound, it’s a noise we can deal with for the performance/value ratio. The noise is easy to forgive with the amount of confidence and control gained.
