Do you have to pay for Petworth Deer Park?

The Deer Park is free to enter but you will be required to pay or show National Trust membership if you enter the park gates beside the house to enter the Pleasure Grounds. We don’t have any manicured or formal gardens here at Petworth – these are in the private section of the house used by Lord and Lady Egremont.

Dogs are welcome in to the Pleasure Garden on a short lead. We ask that all walkers stick to the gravel and hard standings paths and dogs remain on a short lead at all times. Dog waste bins are situated at the main car park and at the far end of the Pleasure Garden, towards Petworth House.

It’s just under 5 miles and a mixture of hilly rises and flat walking. Most of the pathways are well trodden and drain well meaning it’s not too muddy on the beaten track even in winter. If you are not feeling energetic enough to do the full walk it’s easy to see the pathways to take to cut it down a bit.

A great effort has been made to make this very old building wheelchair accessible. Entry to the house is via a ramp which in situe. The staff are very friendly in the house and also by the entrance to the restaurant which requires assistance via a fancy platform lift.
