You need to cancel animations and weave in auto attack to get the maximum damage out of riven. If done improperly you can still kill them but you are losing out on a ton a literal ton of damage.

Animation cancelling is when you stop the animation after the damage or effect has been applied, but the animation would normally still play through. This why you can increase DPS by activating abilities faster because you are not waiting for unnecessary animations.
