Does chalk paint look good on furniture?
Chalk paint can be used to paint almost anything — walls, kitchen cabinets, metal, wood, and even fabric — but the most common use is to give new life to old furniture or to make newer pieces look old. The great thing about chalk paint is that there isn’t a huge learning curve or a lot of prep work.
Is chalk paint on furniture durable?
Chalk paint is not durable on it’s own and need some kind of protective finish. Chalk paint has a much easier alternative to wax if you are looking for a good protective clear coat for furniture.
Do you need to sand before using chalk paint?
Chalk Paint® adheres to almost any surface, and there is rarely any need to sand or prime before painting. For the best results, we recommend using a good quality paintbrush like the Chalk Paint® Brushes to apply the paint. Always finish Chalk Paint® with either Chalk Paint® Wax or Lacquer for protection.
Do you have to strip furniture to use chalk paint?
Chalk paint adheres to furniture beautifully without the use of primer and (usually) no sanding. A quick cleaning is typically all you need. With that being said, there’s very rarely a piece of furniture that goes through our shop that doesn’t need some type of prep work before paint.
Can I use a roller to apply chalk paint?
People often ask us if you can “roll” Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan onto your piece. The answer is yes, you absolutely can! After your piece is nice and clean, you will need your paint, a paint tray, a velour roller with a low or short nap, Annie’s flat brush, a clean rag and a 220 grit sanding sponge.
Can you put polyurethane over chalk paint?
Yes, you can apply oil polyurethane over chalk paint. Polyurethane will leave your surface looking glossy, although not as shiny as other topcoats do. However, you might want to use a water-based formula for better results. Otherwise, your chalk-painted surface will begin to yellow and peel off after some time.
Why do you use a round brush with chalk paint?
The style and grip of round brushes gives you much more control over how you’re laying on the paint and makes it much easier to apply both the chalk paint and the chalk paint wax in order to get that rustic, stylized finish.
