How do you use IWS flood and drain system?
Once you’ve put your system together, it’s time to set your flood height and duration.

How many times a day should I flood and drain?
For instance, if you are growing large plants in clay pebbles in a hot, dry, atmosphere with powerful lighting and longer day time, you may need to flood and drain 9, 10 or even 15 times a day. You may need 1-2 flooding in the night if you have a longer dark period and in summers.
How often should I flood seedlings?
It stabilizes the plant and gives the roots a media they can grow easily through. Hydroton does not have much water holding capacity so for this media, you should be flooding the table every two hours for 15 minutes.
What is the best medium for flood and drain?
For frequent flooding… …we recommend using clay pebbles. A 10L pot of dry clay pebbles can absorb up to 5L of water! They’re incredibly porous! Their porous structure absorbs your nutrient solution, then releases it over time.
How often do you change Hydro water?

The best time to change your hydroponic water entirely is after you’ve topped it off enough times to fill it fully. For an average-size hydroponic system, you’ll likely need to change your water every two to three weeks. However, with smaller hydroponic containers, there will be a shorter time interval.
Can you flood and drain with Coco?
To flood less often… mix coco with your clay pebbles – lots of growers do. Coco holds a lot more water, so you don’t have to flood your system as often. Use any more coco than this, and your media can stay wet for too long – this defeats the point of flood and drain.
Do you need a chiller for flood and drain?
Keep the water temperature at 70°F maximum and at 60°F minimum – use an aquarium heater or a chiller if needed.
Should I use bloom during veg?
We recommend starting with just the VEG switch, and turning on the bloom switch as well at the first sign of pre-flowering. We do have customers who run the bloom switch throughout VEG as well. I would recommend experimenting and finding the light recipe that works best for you! Happy growing!
