Does Medicare cover chemo Australia?
Treatment costs are largely dependent on whether it is subsidised by the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), PBS or private health policies. Intravenous chemotherapy is free in public hospitals but patients prescribed oral chemotherapy will need to shoulder some of the cost, especially from community pharmacies.
Is radiotherapy covered by Medicare?
Radiation Therapy is delivered as an outpatient service and there are costs associated with your care. Most private health funds do not cover outpatient services, however Medicare can cover up to 80% of these costs.

Peter Mac’s radiation therapy services are offered at Monash Cancer Centre in Moorabbin in partnership with Southern Health; in Box Hill at Epworth Eastern Medical Centre; at Sunshine Hospital Radiation Therapy Centre in partnership with Western Health; and at Bendigo Radiotherapy Centre in partnership with Bendigo Health.
