Why was Balboa Park renamed Camp Kidd?
By March 29, 1942, the Navy took possession of Balboa Park and renamed it Camp Kidd, for Rear Admiral Isaac Kidd who was killed on the bridge of the battleship USS Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. The entire Park was off limits to civilians and the Navy forced all organizations in the Park to vacate.
