April 16 – October 31, 2021 Exhibitions are free with Museum admission. In the event of inclement weather, the Cantor Roof Garden will be closed. Alex Da Corte (American, born 1980) has been commissioned to create a site-specific installation for The Met’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden.

Why is Big Bird at the Met blue?
The 40-year-old artist chose to paint Big Bird’s feathers blue not only because of the Sesame Street film, but also in reference to the Muppet’s Brazilian cousin, Garibaldo, who Da Corte watched as a child in Venezuela, as well as the color’s traditional associations with sadness.
