How are you bolts measured?
Fastener length is measured from where the material surface is assumed to be, to the end of the fastener. For fasteners where the head usually sits above the surface, the measurement is from directly under the head to the end of the fastener.
How tight should leaf spring U-bolts be?
Tighten all U-Bolts until they are snug only. Tighten in the sequence shown to approximately 1/3 of recommended torque.
How do you specify AU bolts?
In order to specify a u-bolt for pipes, you must provide the diameter of the pipe, the material, the tangent length, and either the load or thickness of the u-bolt rod.
How is U-bolt strength calculated?
Multiply the product of the tensile strength and the cross-sectional area by 0.56, a coefficient which differentiates shear capacity from tensile capacity. In our example, multiplying 314.16 pounds by 0.56 gives 175.93 pounds. This number is the tensile capacity of the U-bolt.
Can you over tighten leaf spring bolts?
Tightening the shackle bolts too much will squeeze the shackle straps against the leaf springs and the whole suspension system will bind and cause problems. The best thing to do when tightening down shackle bolts is to use lock nuts and tighten them until they are snug and then backed off 1/4 turn.
What are the torque specs for U-bolts?
A properly torqued u-bolt stretches by design resulting in a clamping force that acts as a spring clamp, holding the components of the suspension together. The torque specs for a 1/2″ u-bolts which is the size most frequently used on Venture Trailers is 45ft/lbs-70ft/lbs.
What does AU bolt look like?
A U bolt is a bolt that is shaped like the letter U, with two threaded arms protruding from a curved base. The threaded ends are designed to be used with screws and washers.
