Jet Engine Modulation (JEM) [1], [5] occurs when radar observes a jet airplane at an aspect angle that allows electromagnetic radiation to be backscattered from moving parts of the compressor and blade assembly of the jet engine. JEM increases when radar is orthogonal to the axis of blade rotation.
