What is a swage ferrule?
What is a swage ferrule?
A Thimble and Ferrule is used to make a loop on the end of the wire which is then connected to other fittings. Thimble and Ferrules require the use of a Hand Swaging tool to swage (press) the ferrule onto the wire.
How do you swage ferrule and stop?
Swage the ferrules by starting at one end and compressing the oval shaped fitting sideways between the jaws. Use enough force to create a deep indentation. Ferrules require two or more of these compressions per fitting depending on the application.
What is the difference between crimping and swaging?
To safely secure this assembly to the cut hose length, one of two processes are typically used: swaging or crimping. The basic difference between the two is that the swaging process reduces the ferrule size as it moves towards the fittings, while crimping changes the shape of the entire circumference of the hose.
How strong is swaging?
Termination Efficiency When swaged properly, the strength of this termination is of 90% of the breaking strength of the cable.
What are cable ferrules?
In the context of wiring, a ferrule is a small deformable metal tube, generally made out of tin plated copper. This short tube (or long ring) is placed over a section of stranded wire extending from stripped insulation, then compressed with a crimping tool to hold the strands together.
What is a swage fitting?
A swage fitting is yet another type. It is similar to a crimp fitting in that an external tool is used to apply pressure and a sleeve maintains the pressure after the tools is removed. The major difference is the compressive tool applies much much more force to the sleeve than a crimp tool.
What’s are wire ferrules?
Wire ferrules are also called several other names such as wire-end ferrules or cord end terminals . Wire ferrules are used to prevent fraying when using stranded wire. Wire ferrules are cylindrically shaped terminals made of plated copper. They are slipped over the stripped wire and then permanently crimped into place.
What is a swaging tool?
A Swaging Tool is a downhole tool that is usually used for opening a tubing that is damaged. It is used along with the slickline and when lifted up, the tool opens up the collapsed tubing wall with force.
