What are the side effects of taking Reclast?
Nausea, tiredness, flu-like symptoms (e.g., fever, chills, muscle/joint aches), dizziness, headache, or pain/redness/swelling at the injection site may occur. Most of these side effects are mild and occur within 3 days of treatment.
Who qualifies for Reclast?
Reclast is indicated for the treatment and prevention of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in men and women who are either initiating or continuing systemic glucocorticoids in a daily dosage equivalent to 7.5 mg or greater of prednisone and who are expected to remain on glucocorticoids for at least 12 months.
Does Reclast make you gain weight?
Tell your doctor if you have serious side effects of Reclast including urinating less than usual or not at all; drowsiness, confusion, mood changes, increased thirst, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, swelling, weight gain, shortness of breath, muscle spasms, numbness or tingling (especially around your mouth).
Can Reclast cause hair loss?
Like other bisphosphonate medications, Reclast has been linked to hair loss and/or thinning of hair in some patients.
What to do before Reclast infusion?
Reclast is given intravenously over no less than 15 minutes. Administration of acetaminophen or ibuprofen may reduce infusion related reactions. For treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis, a single 5 mg infusion once a year is recommended. For prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis the recommended dose is 5 mg every two years.
How safe is Reclast?
Reclast can potentially interact with a few other medications (see Reclast Drug Interactions). Reclast is considered a pregnancy Category D medication. This means that it probably is not safe for use during pregnancy (see Reclast and Pregnancy). It is not known whether Reclast passes through breast milk.
Is Prolia safer than Reclast?
TREATMENTS. Dr__Su: Both Reclast and Prolia prevent bone from being reabsorbed as fast as it is currently being reabsorbed, leading you to have osteoporosis. Prolia is stronger than Reclast and may actually help you make more bone. Both of these medications are better alternatives than the pills due to the reflux.
How long does a Reclast infusion take?
It is given slowly into a vein over at least 15 minutes. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Eat and drink normally on the day of treatment. Drink at least 2 glasses of fluid before treatment unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
