To make a pouch begin with 4 pieces of fabric (two of outer fabric, two of lining fabric) all cut the same length as the full length of your zipper and any width you choose. Make a zipper sandwich. Place 1 piece of lining fabric face up, then the zipper and then the outer fabric right side facing down.

How do I sew a zipper into a bag?
Place the fold of the fabric tab in front of the metal zipper stop at the end of the zipper. If your zipper is longer than your bag width, you can move this over to the left a bit more. Sew 1/4″ from the fold of the fabric. I usually sew again over the first stitching to make sure it is good and secure.
How to sew a pouch?
1) Cut out a 6 by 6 in (15 by 15 cm) square along a fold. You can make the pouch any size you like. 2) Fold and pin 1 in (2.5 cm) of fabric on the top edges. This will create the casing for the cord. 3) Sew a straight stitch along the bottom edge of the folds. Set your sewing machine to the straight stitch setting. 4) Sew a straight stitch to secure the sides of the bag. 5) Thread the closed safety pin through the opening on 1 side. Turn the bag right side out so that all of the seams are hidden. 6) Bring the safety pin back through the other opening so the ends are matching up. 7) Tie the ends in a knot to secure them. Both ends of the cord should be on the same side of the pouch now. 8) Repeat to weave a second piece of cord through on the opposite side. Wrap the end of the cord around a safety pin and close it.
