What is a HeartMate II LVAD?
What is a HeartMate II LVAD?
The HeartMate II™ Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) provides short or long-term circulatory support for intermediate-to-advanced heart failure patients. This small, quiet pump features a simple design — with only one moving part — and can provide blood flow equivalent to that of a healthy heart.
What is the CPT code for LVAD implant?
Report: 33982 for replacement of intracorporeal VAD pump with bypass. A patient with dilated cardiomyopathy and end-stage left ventricular failure requires an emergent LVAD implantation. Report: 33975 for insertion of an extracorporeal VAD, single ventricle.

What is a HeartMate 3?
HeartMate III™ is an advanced left ventricular assist device (LVAD) approved for use in advanced heart failure patients who require short or long-term mechanical cardiovascular support such as bridge to transplant (BTT) or destination therapy (DT).
What is an Impella device?
Impella is a miniaturized percutaneously inserted ventricular assist device (VAD) that can be placed via a retrograde approach across the aortic valve using a femoral arterial access.
How do you insert an Impella device?
Share
- Obtain femoral access and insert a 6-8Fr sheath into the vessel.
- Insert the 0.035” stiff guidewire provided in the Introducer Kit.
- Remove the sheath and sequentially dilate the tissue tract.
- Insert the 14Fr peel-away sheath.
- Administer an anticoagulant to achieve an ACT of at least 250 seconds.
Can LVAD patients drink alcohol?
Substance Abuse Smoking and alcohol are not absolute contraindications in destination LVAD implantation, however, if the patient is being considered for heart transplantation, these substances are strictly prohibited and six months of Page 5 abstinence is monitored with random urine screening.
