In both anime the protagonists appear to be perverted and silly most of the time, but in reality they have a serious and soft side when necessary. In GTO, when it’s time for action Onizuka will do anything to protect his students, and the same goes for Ryo when it comes to his clients in City Hunter.
Why do people like GTO so much?
IN GTO the main character is a an ex bike gang leader turned teacher. As you can see they both have the misunderstood bad boy element as well. In GTO most of the comedy is based on Onizuka’s actions and reactions to his students behavior. If you liked one’s sense of comedy then you may just love the other’s.
