What do you think about the td166?
The table probably sounds just as good, if not better than my Project Carbon, which has been modified/upgraded quite a lot. The only qualms I have with the TD166 is its compatibility with different cartridges due to weird VTA clearances, and aluminum plinth covering that seems to be disbonding from the particle board in the corners.

What’s the difference between the tp11 and tp16?
The TP16 is more bulky and I like the TP11’s dynamic stylus force design- with the counterweight- more than the TP16’s spring design; it’s more dynamic. I don’t believe in fancy upgrades because they take the basic sonic signature too far away from the original design.

What is the week link on a TD 166?
The week link is the RCA cables running from the platic “junction box” below the tonearm. The replacement of these makes for a HUGE improvement. The stock cabling is very poor and seems to oxidize easily. The replacement of the headshell leads is also a good thing to do. I have a Thorens TD 166, bought for 100 Euro.
Is a Thorens turntable a good intoduction?
It’s a great intoduction to vinyl. It belongs to the TD150/160 family of Thorens turntables which were in production for over 40 years and have recenly been relauched by the new owners. So spares won’t be an issue.
