What is a shark valve?
SharkBite offers a full range of valves for controlling water flow. SharkBite valves feature push-to-connect ends that make them quick and easy to install. To make your connection, cut the pipe as cleanly and squarely as possible. Ensure the pipe is free of scratches and debris.
Are SharkBite fittings any good?
SharkBites work better than plastic quick-connects on copper pipes because the lead-free brass body is rigid like the pipe and has a higher pressure tolerance. If you need to repair or replace copper plumbing in your home, a SharkBite fitting is an excellent choice. In both places, the fitting would be out of site.

Do SharkBite fittings fail?
When pipe is not reamed or reamed improperly, abrasive edges may cut the O-ring which seals off the water. In fact, lack of or improper reaming is probably the most contributing factor to O-rings failure. Measure – pipe must be fully inserted into the fitting to a depth specified in instructions.
Can you use SharkBite on copper?
SharkBite brass push-to-connect fittings are compatible with PEX, Copper, CPVC, PE-RT and SDR-9 HDPE pipe. SharkBite fittings come with a PEX stiffener pre-loaded into the fitting for PEX, PE-RT and SDR-9 HDPE. The PEX stiffener does not need to be removed for Copper or CPVC applications.

Another disadvantage to using SharkBite fittings is that many plumbers feel that these fittings simply aren’t strong enough to create a tough, durable connection. Although there’s no evidence to back that up, they simply trust soldering for their permanent plumbing projects.
