What should I do after Frenectomy?
For the first 12 to 24 hours you should rest and relax with minimal activity. After first 12 to 24 hours, you may resume activity as tolerated. Bad breath is common and will disappear as healing occurs. Two to three days following surgery, white, possible hard tissue may be seen in the surgical site.

EATING AND DRINKING: Do not try to eat until all the anesthesia (numbness) has worn off. Your first meal should be soft. Avoid spicy, salty, acidic, very hot or very cold foods or liquids. Also, avoid nuts, chips, popcorn, hard bread, or other crunchy or fibrous foods which may become caught between your teeth.

The wound will be “diamond-shaped” and will look like a hole in the beginning. This will change in a few days to a white/yellow colour. The wound can appear infected (see photo’s) but this is the normal healing process.

Stretching is only necessary during waking hours. There is no need for nighttime stretching. Sweeps should be done at every feeding for the first two weeks. Instructions on how to perform sweeps as well as the amount of pressure needed have been provided to you at the time of the procedure.
Can I use a straw after a frenectomy?
A slight (oozing) amount of blood is not unusual for the first 24-48 hours after surgery. Avoid spitting and the use of a straw to drink as the suction action disrupts the natural clotting process.
