Are titanium skewers worth it?
Ti skewers will make your bike and your wallet lighter. Ti = really expensive = really light = usually racing parts = shortened lifespan due to the gram saving which actually weakens the parts for the long haul. If you race and need every ounce shaved off and your sponser is paying then they’re great.

It should be tight enough that it requires some force to get it closed, but not so much that you feel like you’re giving birth. The closed QR lever should come be positioned before or after the fork in the front and between the chain stay and seat stay of the rear triangle, or just below the chain stay.

The axle should not be sticky to turn, indicating dried up grease. For quick-release skewers, while it is out of the bike, put a drop of lubricant in the quick-release cam and work it back and forth.
How do QR skewers work?
The QR skewer works by using a camming mechanism to clamp the wheel down. This basically compresses the fork enough to hold the wheel in place. When the wheel is in place, the closing the lever generates enough compression to keep the wheel locked in place.

More likely you will break the skewer on the quick release. You put a lot of tension on a thin piece of metal when you tighten the skewer too tight. Hubs, properly, adjusted should not tighten up any more no matter how high the skewer tension.
Can you over tighten quick release?
you cant overdo it. You definitely can over do it and it can potentially cause damage to the qr lever if you do. The cheaper open cam skewers can be nearly impossible to over tighten, or even get tight enough unless you lubricate the interface between the lever cam and the concave washer though.
Should I grease my thru axles?
Although it is not required, it is recommended that you apply a light amount of grease to your Mountain Bike axles. You can apply it to the threads, and also on the base of the axles themselves. This not only makes them easier to install and remove, it also helps prevent rust and corrosion.
