Hinged branches are permanently attached to the tree, and can be folded when the tree is taken down for storage. Hooked branches are not permanently attached to the trunk, and instead, are hooked on when setting up and removed when taken down. In general, hinged branches are found on higher-quality trees.

Most likely a bulb is loose, and the connection is getting lost as the bulb moves in its socket. This often occurs through rough handling or improper storage of a tree. Look to find the loose bulb, check the wires to ensure they are properly aligned, and secure the bulb tightly within the socket.
