Should struts and shocks be replaced together?
Should struts and shocks be replaced together?
Shocks and struts should always be replaced at the same time. Unlike some steering and suspension components, the left and right shocks/struts tend to wear down at the same rate. If the left shock or strut is damaged, there’s a good chance the right side also needs to be replaced.
Do shocks come in sets?
Each wheel will either have a strut or a shock. They come in pairs; if you have a shock on the rear left wheel, you will also have a shock on the rear right wheel. However, your vehicle may have shocks on one axle and struts on the other axle.
How much is a strut assembly kit?
The price of a shock absorber and strut assembly starts at around $10 for a pair of struts and goes as high up as $4,000 for a complete shock absorber and strut assembly kit.
Can you just replace shocks?
Do you have to replace both shock absorbers or struts if only one is bad? It’s not necessary, but it’s usually recommended to replace them in pairs, for example, both front struts or both rear shocks. This is because a new shock absorber will absorb road bumps better than the old one.
What is the difference between strut and shock-based suspension?
These assemblies consist of a strut cartridge and spring as a unit, whereas a vehicle with a shock-based suspension system will have a shock absorber and a separate coil or leaf spring.
