These tractors were produced from 1966 until 1980 – an impressive production run of more than 67,000 tractors! The tractor was a sturdy design, with an efficient 195 cubic inch diesel engine. The 990 is in the 50-hp class and came with an optional four wheel drive. It’s a fantastic little powerhouse.

Is a David Brown a good tractor?
They aren’t bad tractors, but they have some bad points. They can get water in the transmission, they aren’t great for driver comfort being over 6, not good ground clearance for us when used in hay production. They have treated us well over the years, hoping they will keep going for few more.
What is the difference between Implematic and Selectamatic?
The Implematic tractors had height control, depth control and traction control, as did the new Selectamatic system. The Selectamatic tractors had the valves located in the right-hand side of the rear axle, and a cam on the end of the ramshaft relayed height control.

What is a Selectamatic?
It is a big hydraulic computer, the operator ‘selects’ the system required, hence “Selectamatic”. Good ploughing tractors, excellent traction and very low speeds. They do need servicing and oils changing, but this is not hard or expensive on a DB.
