Trail is flat and pretty smooth. There is a slight but noticeable gradient from Bakewell to Buxton over the distance of about 7.5 miles so worth doing the route that way as you can almost freewheel on the way back.

Where can I cycle the Monsal Trail in South Wales?
If you want to cycle from the other end of the Monsal trail, go to Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire and park in the Wye Dale Car Park. The Wye Dale Car Park is just off the A6, opposite the Topley Pike Aggregate Quarry. One of the advantages of this bike hire shop is that you have a fixed price for the whole day.

Car parks are shown on the Monsal Trail map. The most parking is in Bakewell where there are several pay and display car parks in the town and a small car park next to the Trail at Bakewell Station. Use postcode DE45 1BU to get the central Bakewell car parks.
How do I get to Monsal?

Access the trail at the rear of Hassop Station, turning right to pass in front of the building and under the road bridge.
