No info about The Hobbit yet, but they were shot digitally in 5K, although considering their 2K masters and the amount of 2K VFX it’s hard to expect anything else than just upscales, but better compression should work as always. They’re all filmed in 4K, not 2K, etc, so no upscales needed.
