What is PDP Rcvs?
The aim of the PDP is to help newly qualified veterinary graduates make the transition from life as a veterinary student to working in clinical practice as a professional veterinary surgeon.
Does PDP count as CPD?
PDP will count towards your CPD requirement. We view undertaking and completing the PDP as a year’s worth of CPD and it is therefore equivalent to 35 hours of CPD activity.
How long should a PDP last?
The average time taken to complete the PDP is 18 months. Some graduates may complete in a shorter time, some longer.
How do you become an RCVS accredited?
To become accredited, practices volunteer for rigorous assessment every four years and will have met a range of minimum standards including hygiene, 24-hour emergency cover, staff training, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures. Practices are also subject to spot-checks between assessments.
What do you write in PDP?
There are seven steps to writing a PDP:
- Set yourself goals.
- Prioritise those goals.
- Set yourself deadlines for when you want to achieve them.
- Recognise threats and opportunities.
- Develop your skills or increase your knowledge.
- Use your support network.
- Measure your progress.
How do you prepare for a PDP meeting?
Have your team follow these steps so your PDP meetings are most effective:
- Review performance.
- Identify goals for improvement.
- List actionable steps to achieve those goals.
- Define metrics and milestones.
- Identify what support and resources are needed.
- Review and finalize the plan.
When is the last date to enrol for the RCVS PDP?
The last enrolment for the PDP was in June 2021. Those currently enrolled will have until June 2024 to complete the programme. New graduates should enrol for the VetGDP. The RCVS Code of Professional Conduct requires new and recent graduates to comply with RCVS PDP and CPD requirements.
How do I become an RCVS-approved graduate development practice?
In order to become an RCVS-Approved Graduate Development Practice, practices must meet the following criteria: Completed the RCVS VetGDP training within the past five years (NB please see note below for additional guidance for 2021). Signed an RCVS declaration, agreeing to provide their graduate (s) with regular support.
