What is septal Dermoplasty?
Septal dermoplasty can reduce the severity of epistaxis by 75%. This procedure involves replacing the nasal mucosa with autologous skin grafts. Telangiectasias may also develop on the autologous skin grafts, however. Septal dermoplasty decreases the need for, but does not obviate, repeated laser ablation.
How Merocel works?
The Merocel nasal tampon is made of polyvinyl alcohol, which is a compressed foam polymer that is inserted into the nose and expanded by application of water. The nasal tampon swells and fills the nasal cavity and applies pressure over the bleeding point.
How to pack epistaxis?
Nasal packing may be “anterior” nasal packing that is done by using a gauze inserted inside the nasal cavity after numbing the nasal area. The doctor will douse the gauze in an antibiotic ointment and a medication that squeezes the blood vessels shut.
