Why anyone would want to “slug” a barrel. The sole reason is to determine its size, or more precisely, its interior diameter. If you are going to only handload factory jacketed bullets in your handguns, or fire only factory loads then don’t bother.
What does it mean to rifle a barrel?
Rifling refers to the spiral (helical) grooves that are cut or swagged on the internal surface (bore) of a gun barrel, which helps impart the spinning motion to a bullet when it’s fired. A spinning bullet is found to be more stable in its trajectory, and is therefore more accurate than a bullet that doesn’t spin.
Is a shotgun with a rifled barrel a rifle?

Three- and 31/2-inch slugs shoot only slightly flatter than 23/4-inch versions but deliver a boatload more recoil. Barrel Length: Keep it fairly short. A 21- to 24-inch barrel will handle well even if you’re tucked into the brush or hiding in a tree. Dry-fire the gun to see if you can live with the trigger pull.
Is a slug gun a shotgun?
