Can you drive to Cardrona?

Driving to Cardrona Cardrona is just a short hop over the Crown Range from Queenstown Airport, so it’s super easy to pick up your rental car and drive straight here! Both the Crown Range road and the Cardrona mountain road can be affected by snowfall, so it’s best to always carry chains and know how to use them.

Can you stay on the mountain in Queenstown?

Unlike many other parts of the world, on-mountain accommodation at the New Zealand ski resorts is not very common, and true New Zealand ski-in ski-out accommodation is very rare indeed. Most New Zealand accommodation is off-mountain in towns such as Queenstown, Wanaka, Methven, Lake Tekapo and Ohakune.

We recommend you use 4WD or AWD vehicles. All vehicles should carry chains in winter.

What time does Cardrona road open?

8.30am – 12.30pm
Cardrona Lift Passes ½ day passes run between 8.30am – 12.30pm in the morning, 12.30pm – 4pm in the afternoon. There’s a multi-day discount throughout the winter for both consecutive and non-consecutive days skiing.

Is Cardrona good for beginners?

Cardrona is great for beginners with its wide open slopes and brand new chondola, a ‘combined’ lift of gondola cabins and chairs, making it easy for first time skiers and snowboarders to ride to the top of the mountain on their first day.

Is Cardrona Pub open?

Our in-house bar and restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is popular amongst house-guests, locals and visitors alike.

What is Cardrona known for?

Established as a gold rush township in the 1860s on the banks of the small river of the same name, it is known for its distinctive hotel of gold rush vintage which is on the opposite side of the river to the original township of which few buildings remain.
