The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) provides funds to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in communities. In addition, discretionary grants are available at the statewide or local level, or for associations with demonstrated expertise in addressing the needs of low-income families, such as Community Action Agencies (CAAs).

CSBG has created grantee toolkits that include all subject-relevant content for CSBG CARES Act and Disaster Relief Supplemental funds. These toolkits highlight information pertinent to funding, reporting, monitoring, and guidance.
How do States and CaaS work together to support CSBG funding?
With the support of CSBG funding, states and CAAs work together to achieve the following goals for low-income individuals: Working together, agencies increase their capacity to achieve results. Partnerships among supporters and providers of services play a large role in the successful implementation of CSBG grants.
Which states are considered States for the purposes of CSBG?
Please note that the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are considered states for the purposes of the CSBG Act and are reported herein accordingly. These tables are for regular CSBG issued throughout the 2020 FFY and the CARES Act CSBG issued in May 2020.
