Who makes Grip Shift?
SRAM Eagle
Three decades ago, SRAM was founded on a product called Grip Shift, and an idea that shifting a bike should be easier, better and more intuitive. The new Eagle™ Grip Shift includes new, robust internals that make it even more durable and its shifting performance more precise.
Are twist grip shifters good?
Twist shifters are most commonly featured on mountain bikes, and they can also be used on other bikes with straight handlebars. Because the shifters are placed on the outer handle, they do not fit on road bikes. Some people prefer these shifters because they make it easier to remain stable on the bike.
What is the difference between Shimano and SRAM?
The key difference between SRAM and Shimano groupsets is the shifting actuation – the distance between shifts relative to the lever index. Shimano’s 1:1 ratio means the cable and derailleur move further during each shift. SRAM works on the tighter tolerance of a 2:1 ratio.
When did Grip Shift start?
SRAM was founded on a single product in 1987 and introduced the Grip Shift (or twist shift) shifter to the road bike market in 1988. In 1991 that technology was adapted for mountain bikes, and SRAM quickly grew.
Can I use SRAM shifter with Shimano derailleur?
The SRAM rear derailleur (mech) will not work with a Shimano shifter as is; the cable pull and shift activation ratios are not the same between the two systems. If you do get a Shimano rear derailleur, you would need the GS (long) cage if you have an 11-32 cassette.
Are SRAM Grip Shift twist shifters any good?
After a long hiatus, SRAM reintroduced Grip Shift twist shifters to the world last year, with new 10-speed compatibility and a more advanced internal design. After more than six months of regular use, we can say that they’re winners in terms of performance – and not just for the cross-country racing crowd.
Do you need a micro-ratcheting front shifter with SRAM?
Some might lament SRAM’s decision to omit a micro-ratcheting front shifter. But it’s worth noting that we never experienced any cage rub throughout testing, in any gear combinations on a 2×10 SRAM drivetrain. So no trim is actually required, at least when you’re running matching SRAM front derailleurs.
What is SRAM’s difference between integrated and interlocking handlebars?
SRAM claims this affects the internal alignment of the bearings and other mechanisms less than a more integrated setup, but it also takes up about 8mm more room on your handlebar. Tossing in the included clamp-on, interlocking grips adds yet another few millimeters relative to standard grips such as ODI’s Ruffians.
