What is ComposiMold made of?

What is ComposiMold made of?

ComposiMold is a rubbery, flexible resin made from a proprietary blend of environmentally friendly materials. Unlike most flexible mold making materials, ComposiMold is a thermoplastic resin that can be melted continuously. A rubber mold is made by making a negative shape of an original master piece.

How long does ComposiMold take to dry?

ComposiMold Plaster Additive is specially formulated for strong, hard castings that cure fast. Working time of 15 minutes, demold in 1 hour, complete cure in 24 to 48 hours. If you are using regular Plaster of Paris, use ComposiMold Plaster Additive to make stronger castings that cure hard in ComposiMold molds.

How many times can you reuse a silicone mold?

You could expect to get anywhere from 20 to 50 copies of your part. By that point the silicone RTV material was degrading and the parts produced needed to much “fixing” to make it economically profitable. Silicone molds are difficult to do but less expensive than other types of production.

What material is best for resin molds?

We recommend using melamine, medium density fibreboard (MDF), or smooth plywood for the base and walls. If you are wondering about other materials for your mold surface, see below for a list of materials that epoxy will and will not stick to.

Can you use silicone baking molds for resin?

One thing to keep in mind is if a mold is made of silicone you can use it for resin! Which means baking molds are fare game… just be aware that most resin molds are glossy (which leaves your piece with a glossy shine to the front!) whereas baking molds often leave your piece matte.

Can you melt silicone and reuse it?

Once cured, silicone cannot be simply re-melted (as vinyl can) but hardened leftovers and moulds which are no longer needed can be put to good use. In short, if these can be granulated they can be added as a filler to newly-mixed silicone.

Can resin be melted and reused?

NO, the resin cannot be melted and reused. It cannot even be melted. Resin is nowhere near thermoplastics that can be melted and then later molded or shaped for reuse. Once the resin has been formed after the polymerization reaction, you don’t even have a chance at melting and reshaping it.
