What is the purpose of Science Olympiad?
Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing opportunity and diversity in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers.
How do you join the Science Olympiad team?
A team is usually assembled in the fall and competitions are held in the spring. If more than 15 people at a school want to join Science Olympiad, the school will often hold tryouts, similar to sports teams. Candidates will typically take science tests and the 15 students who score the highest will make the team.

Upwards of 7,900 teams in 50 states compete head-to-head for a chance to compete against some of the brightest and most creative students in the US at the National Tournament.

Science Olympiad is a STEM competition in which teams of 15 students compete in 23 events from various scientific fields, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Tower Building, Rocks and Minerals, Forensics, and more. Events can generally be separated into three categories: Study, Build, and Lab.

Currently, 120 teams compete at the national level each year (60 from Division B and 60 from Division C); the number has changed over the years to accommodate growing participation. Many states also hold invitational tournaments.
