Due to ongoing construction and related safety concerns, the trail at Terrell’s Island will remain partially closed for 2021. The Butte des Morts Conservation Club who owns the property and maintains the trail, will be opening a portion of the trail.

Terrell’s Island currently offers three hiking trails for visitors to enjoy. The Club is continually working to improve them and we are hoping to have a nice map of them made in the not too distant future. Terrell’s Island, and its pelicans.
What can you do in Lake Terrell?
Great egrets, snowy egret and great blue heron are all common nesters in the area, either within Terrell’s Island or on nearby islands. Besides walking and bicycling, visitors are able to travel by canoe or kayak. Within the breakwall, waters are calm and clear on most days, even when conditions are choppy out on the open waters of the big lake.
When do the Pelicans come to Terrell Island?
The pelican migration mirrors the migration of the Canadian Geese, and once the pelicans arrive at the Terrell Island area, they stay there in large numbers throughout the spring, summer and early fall. Right now is a great time to visit and see pelicans.
