They aren’t bad … but they don’t necessarily compare to, say, a Fender or Gibson. The reasons are many. Wood used, quality of glue, quality of hardware, quality of fret material, fret tuning and tolerance, pick ups, soldering … all these thing have better quality control and quality parts in more expensive guitars.

The acoustic needed new tuners, the Strat needed some soldering work, the parts and labor were worth more than the guitars. After fixing and setting up both… I’ll say they are playable at best. Most bottom end Squier stuff (not knocking Squier, just mean their low end models) would out play either of these.
What do you think about the SX guitars?
SX guitars are made from good tone woods, have a good feel and sound. They do need some tweaking for the best playability, however they have good quality for the price. I’ve played Fenders and Gibsons that aren’t worth 1/4 of what they cost.
Are ESP Guitars good for playing metal?
MOST ESP guitars are great for playing metal and stuff. I love to play riffs on my Iron Cross. However, having worked at guitar center for 5 months, I’ve gotten a lot of complaints about the ESP LTDs, and how they won’t stay in tune, how the tremolo systems are cheap, and the dislike for tone, etc. ESP is a good company, just a few flaws.

The Fact That Taylor, Gretsch, Gibson, Fender Are On The List. If you don’t know what brand to buy, buy Yamaha. There’s a reason this brand is chosen by almost every music education establishment, they are the best available.
