Can I plug a SATA drive into an eSATA port?
Can I plug a SATA drive into an eSATA port?
1 Answer. Yes, it’s possible to use an internal SATA 3.5 HDD powered by your independent power supply. There is no extra circuitry as far as I know, and the only thing you need is the SATA to eSATA cable. If you have an eSATAp port, you can just use a compatible cable and it will provide power directly from the port.
Can you use the same SATA cable for multiple drives?
Yes, as long as you don’t overload either the cables, connectors or PSU. Each 3.5″ SATA HDD drawsoeak power around 2A at spin-up, whereas the other components you mention draw negligible power. You must ensure, that all components 8n the power chain can handle the total peak power draw.
