Rudy Etchen was the best doubles trap shooter and he used a 870, and shot a couple of 100 straights with the same gun 50 years apart. A 28″ barrel will work just fine. Use 7/8 or 1oz of shot if recoil is a problem. International shooters are limited to 7/8 and it works for them.
