In 1916 Gustav organised a Whitsun Festival in the church. He was Director of Music at Morley College and some of his students came to Thaxted to be part of the festival. In 1917 the family moved into Thaxted to live in “The Steps” now called “The Manse” in Town Street. A blue plaque is beside the front door.
