CLEP tests are not as well-known as Advanced Placement, dual enrollment or International Baccalaureate – and not all colleges will accept them for credit – but they can add depth to nearly any college application.

When can I take a CLEP exam?
CLEP exams are given on an individual basis between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, as schedules permit. An appointment is required. All CLEP exams consist of 90 minutes of testing time. Candidates should allow approximately 15-20 minutes before the test for check-in and tutorial time.
What CLEP tests are available?
CLEP (College Level Examination Program) CLEP is a computer-based exam designed to test knowledge equivalent to that attained by specific classes. The Office of Testing administers all available CLEP tests; it is up to the student to determine which test they take and to make sure that it is accepted at the institution of their choice.
What are the pass rates for the CLEP?
Generally, only 50 out of 80 is needed to pass a CLEP exam, which comes out to a grade of 63%. The catch is that a CLEP test will appear as a “P” for “pass” on your transcript whether you get a 50 or an 80. Since CLEP exams cover such a broad range of concepts, you are not expected to pass with flying colors.

CLEP exams are available year-round. Test centers may be located in high schools, on college campus, at independent testing organizations, and on military bases. Although there are no official CLEP courses in high school, there are several ways your child can prepare to earn college credit through CLEP.
