The new parking charges at Thorndon and the other Country Parks across Essex have been introduced following a public consultation and have been reviews to offer payment flexibility and good value parking to customers in response to short stay visitors who do not wish to pay for a full day of parking.

How long is Gruffalo Trail Brentwood?

The trail helps children understand our native woodland and see it as a welcoming place. The Gruffalo Trail takes about 45 minutes. Get a map at the Countryside Centre in Thorndon North for a small charge. Please keep dogs on a lead and wear wellies!
Is Gruffalo Trail free?
The Gruffalo Trail is free, although I would recommen buying a map for 50p. You don’t need to book as it’s in open woodland. A map of the trail is available from the Visitors Centre (50p).
Are dogs allowed at Thorndon Park?
Thorndon Park is the only park in the council area that has a complete ban on dogs. Dogs are allowed to be walked at all times, on leash, in nearby Linear Park and in recreational area of Morialta Conservation Park.

As with all Country Parks in Essex, it’s really important to remember that parking charges apply at all times. Parking is on a Pay & Display basis and tickets are available from the machines in each car park – currently £2.50.

The park, car parks, children’s play equipment, Gruffalo Trail and toilets are open. The Countryside Cafe is also open. We ask that all visitors to the Essex Country Parks follow government guidelines and respect other visitors to help keep Covid in check.

Does Thorndon Park have toilets?
At Thorndon North the toilets are located in a separate building behind the Countryside Centre, close to the car park. At Thorndon South, the toilets can be found in the Octagon Pavilion. Toilets include baby changing and disabled facilities.
