Some Pokemon only evolve if they are a specific gender. Burmy for example evolves into Mothim if it’s male and Wormadam if it’s female. Salandit may only evolve into Salazzle if it is a female Salandit. Outside of these few instances, Pokemon and gender doesn’t really matter as much as you think.
