How do you make a zipper pouch?

To make a pouch begin with 4 pieces of fabric (two of outer fabric, two of lining fabric) all cut the same length as the full length of your zipper and any width you choose. Make a zipper sandwich. Place 1 piece of lining fabric face up, then the zipper and then the outer fabric right side facing down.

How to make a zipper pouch?

Prepare the fabrics. As always I recommend washing and drying your fabric. Iron it well and cut out the desired dimensions.

  • Align the fabrics. Set one piece of lining fabric on your workspace, with its face up. Then put the zipper on it,also face up.
  • Sew the zipper. Put your zipper presser foot on your sewing machine and start sewing along the edge where the zipper is.
  • Align the fabrics one more time. Put your other lining fabric piece on your workspace with its face up.
  • Repeat the sewing process. Sew the zipper one more time just like you did in the second step of this zip pouch tutorial.
  • Press the seams. Open up the layers so that the zipper is in the middle. Flip the whole thing over so that the main fabric is facing up.
  • Topstitch along the zipper. Make a stitch along the edge of the zipper on both the left and the right side of the zipper.
  • Prepare the pouch for the final sewing. Pull the zipper about 3/4 of the way down.
  • Sew around the zipper pouch. Sew all around the pouch, from the lining over the main fabric and back to the lining.
  • Trim and turn. Snip the corners and the ends of the zipper. Then turn the whole pouch inside-out through the opening you left.
  • Sew the opening shut. Fold the edges on the opening inwards a bit and sew over them, shutting the opening closed. Tuck the lining into the pouch.
  • How do I sew a zipper into a bag?

Place the fold of the fabric tab in front of the metal zipper stop at the end of the zipper. If your zipper is longer than your bag width, you can move this over to the left a bit more. Sew 1/4″ from the fold of the fabric. I usually sew again over the first stitching to make sure it is good and secure.

    How to sew a pouch?

    1) Cut out a 6 by 6 in (15 by 15 cm) square along a fold. You can make the pouch any size you like. 2) Fold and pin 1 in (2.5 cm) of fabric on the top edges. This will create the casing for the cord. 3) Sew a straight stitch along the bottom edge of the folds. Set your sewing machine to the straight stitch setting. 4) Sew a straight stitch to secure the sides of the bag. 5) Thread the closed safety pin through the opening on 1 side. Turn the bag right side out so that all of the seams are hidden. 6) Bring the safety pin back through the other opening so the ends are matching up. 7) Tie the ends in a knot to secure them. Both ends of the cord should be on the same side of the pouch now. 8) Repeat to weave a second piece of cord through on the opposite side. Wrap the end of the cord around a safety pin and close it.
