Fire Island Ferries provide transportation service from Bay Shore to Kismet, Saltaire, Fair Harbor, Atlantique, Dunewood, Ocean Beach, Seaview, and Ocean Bay Park, the seven western towns of Fire Island. It is a 30-minute ferry ride that has been running since 1948.
What ferries go to Fire Island?
There are two companies who operate ferries between Long Island and Fire Island: the Sayville Ferry Service and Fire Island Ferries. The Sayville Ferry Service runs ferries from Sayville (Long Island) to the eastern part of Fire Island which includes: Fire Island Pines, Cherry Grove, Sailors Haven, and Water Island.
Can you drive cars on Fire Island?
There are no paved roads on Fire Island, and only service and emergency vehicles are allowed on the island. Free of cars, traffic, pollution, and noise, Fire Island offers a peaceful getaway, unlike any other vacation destination.
Can you walk from Robert Moses to Kismet?
You can walk to the areas of fire island where you can’t drive. If you park at Field 5, the one closest to the lighthouse, you can actually walk past the lighthouse to Kismet, Soltaire and other Fire Island beaches/villages.

How many bags can I take on the ferry?
Each passenger will be limited to One Trip Through The Gate with two bags (25lbs max) which must fit under your seat. All other essential items, when accepted, must be carried in the freight area on the ferry, and will be charged for accordingly. Coolers 48qt. and smaller will be permitted.
