The Summit Bechtel Reserve was built in 2009 on more than 10,000 acres in Fayette and Raleigh Counties near the New River Gorge. It serves as the home of the quadrennial National Scout Jamboree, drawing nearly 30,000 participants to that event alone and pushing annual participants over 46,000.

When did the BSA buy the Bechtel Reserve?
On November 18, 2009, the BSA announced the acquisition of the property comprising the main 10,600-acre site of what is now The Summit Bechtel Reserve. Its acquisition was made possible through a donation from the Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation. The $50 million donation is the largest in the history of the BSA.

Please note, the James C. Justice National Scout Camp is not a National High Adventure experience. It has a different focus and does not grant access to all of the venues or program elements used by High Adventure Experiences at the Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base.
