There are many incredible National Parks in Canada like Banff, Jasper, and Yoho, but in my opinion, Waterton is one of the best places to go in Canada, simply because it is still so unspoiled by overtourism, and has some of the best lakes in Canada.

On hot summer days, people swim in Upper Waterton Lake. The beach near the Townsite campground is also used but tends to be windier. The Marquis Hole picnic site along the Waterton River is also a popular spot for swimming.

Waterton Lakes National Park is open year round. Our peak season is in the summer months. If you are planning to visit during these months, especially in July and August, be sure to plan ahead. From November to April, most facilities in the townsite are closed.

Is the Goat Haunt in Waterton worth a stop?
We took the Waterton Lake boat cruise, which was beautiful but even that disappointed since the Goat Haunt ranger station is closed due to federal budget cuts, so there is no stop there and you cannot get off in the US where there are s many beautiful hikes. I recommend waiting at least until the Red Rock Canyon Parkway reopens before visiting.
