What does a de Gogue do?
The De Gogue, a piece of tack that was developed by French horseman Rene Gogue, is very popular in Europe. It is designed to encourage the horse to raise the neck, free the shoulders and engage the hocks. It can be used whilst lunging as well as riding, and has two settings for adjustability.
What is the difference between a chambon and a de Gogue?
The chambon then snaps on to the top of the bit ring, while the de Gogue runs through the bit to attach to two straps like a running martingale. The de Gogue tends to control the nose a bit more, which can be important for certain horses, but for a green horse the chambon is a better choice.

The De Gogue attaches to the girth between the horses front legs. Then attach two rings to the first D ring on the piece coming up from their legs, then take each rein and put it through the bit and up alongside the cheekpiece. It then attaches to the piece at the poll and runs back down to clip onto the D ring again.

This divides at the chest into two pieces of cord that pass up either side of the underneck to two little pulleys on either side of a padded headpiece attached to the top of the bridle.
