Bayaz found refuge with Juvens, who would not turn him away, despite his betrayal. Kanedias followed and the brothers fought. When Bayaz returned, Juvens was dead; killed by Kanedias with The Divider – at least according to Bayaz.

Where did Bayaz find the seed?
Bayaz eventually found The Seed in the House of the Maker thanks to Ferro Maljinn. It was kept in the box until he used The Seed to destroy Khalul’s army of Eaters, and half of Adua. It was last seen under Yoru Sulfur’s arm when he and Bayaz left Adua at the end of the trilogy.
Who does Glokta fear?
Although never named, Sand dan Glokta is referred to a couple of times. In Best Served Cold, Carlot dan Eider expresses her fear of “the cripple”, who really has control in The Union.
Is Bayaz a Glustrod?
Bayaz also possesses a large book written by Glustrod, with a scarred and battered-looking black cover, in the Great Northern Library. During the Battle of Adua, Bayaz uses the knowledge of Glustrod, combined with the investigations of Kanedias, to use the Seed against Khalul’s army of Eaters.
What happened to Malacus Quai?
While Bayaz orders her to take it to the palace, Quai reveals himself to be Tolomei, the Maker’s dead daughter. She killed Quai and took on his appearance before the journey to the edge of the world (the mauled body that Inquisitor Glokta investigated was Quai).

Later, Glokta goes to the Inquisition and arrests superior Goyl and tortures him by piercing his hands with nails, effectively nailing him to the table.
Who betrayed Glokta?
Catching Practical Frost’s eye, he realises it was him. Frost quickly breaks Severard’s neck, and turns on the torturer. Glokta just wants to know why Frost betrayed him before he dies, but Frost just shrugs.

He still has a faded scar, from the base of his neck down towards his shoulder, from his clash with Kanedias. When he’s angry, his voice becomes almost unnaturally loud. Long ago in the Old Time, Juvens took Bayaz as his first apprentice, and trained him in the principles of the High Art.

Upon the death of Harod, Bayaz left the Union, but swore an oath to return one day. He ordered a seat on the King’s Closed Council to be left vacant for him. However, Bayaz has continued to secretly influence The Union under assumed identities ever since, to keep the great nation stable.

Bayaz looks maybe sixty, heavily built, with green eyes, a strong face, deeply lined, and a close-cropped grey beard around his mouth. He is entirely bald, with a tanned pate. He’s neither handsome nor majestic, but there’s something stern and wise about him.
