- Obtain femoral access and insert a 6-8Fr sheath into the vessel.
- Insert the 0.035” stiff guidewire provided in the Introducer Kit.
- Remove the sheath and sequentially dilate the tissue tract.
- Insert the 14Fr peel-away sheath.
- Administer an anticoagulant to achieve an ACT of at least 250 seconds.
Can LVAD patients drink alcohol?
Substance Abuse Smoking and alcohol are not absolute contraindications in destination LVAD implantation, however, if the patient is being considered for heart transplantation, these substances are strictly prohibited and six months of Page 5 abstinence is monitored with random urine screening.
