This is grid, the first instrument made by monome. It has 128 keys (though it’s also been 64 and 256) which are decoupled from their light, allowing both tactile and visual play. It’s enclosed in sturdy aluminum (though it’s also been walnut, steel, and silicone).

How do you use monome Norns?
Run the script by clicking on the play button to the top right of the Maiden window. Touch a button on the grid and watch it light up on the Norns. Move the light across the monome by turning the knobs on the Norns. Change the brightness by pressing the buttons on the Norns.

How do I connect to norns?
To connect norns to your local network router:
- navigate to SYSTEM > WiFi.
- select ADD.
- choose your network from the list displayed.
- enter the password (E2 toggles between top and bottom row, E3 scrolls character, K3 selects character)
- select OK when complete.
- you should be assigned an IP address shortly after.
Is Monome grid velocity sensitive?
There isnt much difference from a piano in that you press a button and something happens. Of course, the monome isnt velocity sensitive but there are ways around that. The main difference is that monome is much more versatile than the piano!
