What is a Valvetronic sensor?

What is a Valvetronic sensor?

The Valvetronic sensor measures the position of the eccentric shaft in the cylinder head which controls the variable valve lift system on the intake side of the engine. The Valvetronic system essentially controls the engine speed by varying the lift of the intake valves.

What does a valvetronic motor do?

The Valvetronic system is a BMW variable valve lift system which, in combination with variable valve timing, allows infinite adjustment of the intake valve timing and duration. The system claims to improve fuel economy and emissions, and negates the need for a throttle body in regular use.

What is a Valvetronic actuator?

The Valvetronic system is a BMW variable valve lift system which, in combination with variable valve timing, allows infinite adjustment of the intake valve timing and duration. First introduced by BMW on the 316ti compact in 2001, Valvetronic has since been added to many of BMW’s engines.

What is Valvetronic in BMW?

What is a Valvetronic motor on a BMW E90?

The Valvetronic motor is used on BMW E90 models with a normally-aspirated engine. It is responsible for actuating an eccentric shaft that adjusts intake valve lift. The motor itself is pretty reliable and does not fail too often. However, you will have to remove it for other engine repairs and the gasket…

Why is my E90 320i running on half power?

Recently I had a E90 320i come into my shop with the mil light on and running on half power. A scan of the vehicle indicated valvetronic servor motor internal failure. On testing the valvetronic servor motor I found it to be working. The problem was it was not advancing the valve timing thus the half power of the engine.

Will this valve timing trick work on a Valvetronic BMW?

Hi there yes this trick will work on any BMW which has valvetronic servor motors to advance the valve timing. This trick was shown to me by the BMW main dealer here in south africa. The main dealer told me that it is a common fault on the the valvetronic engines. Just got an email back from a friend in the Virgin Islands and he loves the fix.

What are the limit stops on a BMW valvetronic assembly?

When repairs are performed on the Valvetronic assembly the limit stops have to be relearned. You will need access to a BMW scan tool to do this procedure. The limit stops are the mechanical limit stop, end to end of rotation of the eccentric shaft.
